Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino claims quantum computing will hack Bitcoin in “lost wallets” and return it to circulation — a move one trader warns could drag Bitcoin back to the “stone ages.”
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino predicts that quantum computing will eventually hack inactive Bitcoin wallets, returning the Bitcoin in those wallets to circulation.
However, he says this is still a long way off.
“Any Bitcoin in lost wallets, including Satoshi (if not alive), will be hacked and put back in circulation,” Ardoino said in a Feb. 8 X post .

The image shows an enigmatic and high-tech scene depicting the concept of quantum computing’s impact on Bitcoin, as envisioned by Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino. In the foreground, a large, futuristic quantum computer glows with a deep blue and violet light. It has an intricate network of glowing circuits and is connected to a transparent digital screen displaying lines of complex code and floating Bitcoin symbols.
In the center of this digital screen, a holographic 3D model of a Bitcoin wallet radiates with golden light, symbolizing a “lost wallet” being accessed. Small streams of light, representing digital information, flow from the wallet into the quantum computer, illustrating the process of hacking through advanced technology.
The background is dimly lit to create a mysterious ambiance but punctuated by occasional beams of sharp white light that suggest advanced scientific innovation. In the distance, shadowy figures—potentially representing Bitcoin traders and cryptocurrency enthusiasts—observe the scene with a mix of awe and concern, reflecting the divisive opinions on this development.
Analogous to the concept of returning to the “stone ages,” a crude, stone wheel lies abandoned and partly visible in one corner of the image, symbolizing the drastic shift and potential regression in Bitcoin’s value and security due to this technological intervention.
Color Palette:
The color scheme features deep blues and violets for the quantum computer, signifying advanced technology and the unknown implications of quantum power. Gold lights highlight the Bitcoin and wallet, focusing on the value and vulnerability of cryptocurrency. The use of shadows and minimalistic white light creates a dramatic and uncertain mood, reinforcing the theme of unforeseen consequences.
This powerful image visually conveys the tension between technology’s reach into the past holdings of Bitcoin and the potential upheaval in the cryptocurrency market, aligning with the themes discussed in the article.
